APGO Education Foundation announces new Arsalan Mohajer Bursary to support internationally-trained geoscientists
The APGO Education Foundation (“the Foundation”) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Arsalan Mohajer Bursary. This new Bursary Program for $5,000 per annum over the next three years is intended to support internationally- trained geoscientists, specializing in geophysics or environmental geoscience, in fulfilling the requirements for registration with the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO). see more

The Foundation will award two scholarships of $5,000 each to two students of geoscience who, in Spring of 2017, are on track to meet the requirements for advancement into a fourth year that will enable completion of the knowledge requirements for professional registration in the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO). see more

Up to $10,000 bursary program for internationally trained geoscientists, applications open
The APGO Education Foundation (“the Foundation”) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its Bursary Program that supports immigrants to Canada who are internationally-trained geoscientists and have demonstrated financial need for completion of licensure procedures for registration as a professional geoscientist (P.Geo.) in Ontario. Two bursaries, the Arsalan Mohajer Bursary and the Past Presidents’ Bursary, of up to $5,000 each will be awarded. The Foundation will be working closely with the Registrar of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) to identify potential candidates. see more

The APGO Education Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Past Presidents’ Bursary. This new Bursary Program is intended to support internationally-trained geoscientists in fulfilling the requirements for registration with the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO). Applicants must have demonstrated financial need for completion of licensure procedures for registration as a professional geoscientist in Ontario, and have also demonstrated leadership. see more

Metcalfe Geoheritage Park opened on September 24, 2016
Twelve years of planning and construction culminated Saturday in the official opening of Almonte’s Metcalfe Geoheritage Park in its permanent home at the bottom of Bay Hill. Nearly a hundred people turned out for Saturday’s opening. Speakers included Dr. Al Donaldson, Dr. Greg Brooks, Dr. Bill Pearson, Lesley Hymers, Scott Newton and Mayor Shaun McLaughlin. Metcalfe Geoheritage Park is Canada’s first municipally-run geoheritage park. see more

APGO Education Foundation awards grant of $4,166 to Metcalfe Geoheritage Park Committee, Almonte, Ontario
September 19, 2016, Toronto, Ontario: The APGO Education Foundation (“the Foundation”) is pleased to announce that it has awarded a grant of $4,166 to the Metcalfe Geoheritage Park Committee to develop a QR code system of signage that will enable visitors with mobile devices to connect digitally with a wealth of geo-information about the site and the specimens on display. The Metcalfe Geoheritage Park, Canada’s first municipal Geoheritage Park, is located on the Mississippi River in the town of Almonte in eastern Ontario. see more

The APGO Education Foundation: A New Charitable Foundation for the Geosciences
The APGO Education Foundation (“Ed Fdn”) is a new charitable Foundation for the geosciences. Its mission is to provide financial and other support to:

• Promote a greater public understanding of geoscience;
• Support the individuals who study geoscience; and
• Support the practice of professional geoscience.

Founded by Dr. Bill Pearson, P.Geo, APGO’s first president, the Ed Fdn will be launching a Scholarship and Bursary program in early 2016. Scholarships will support post-secondary students in the 3rd year of a geoscience study program at an Ontario university. Bursaries will support immigrants to Canada who are internationally-trained geoscientists and have demonstrated financial need for completion of licensure procedures for registration as a professional geoscientist in Ontario. see more
